This class is the satisfying balance of exploration of movement and quest for technical precision. Warm-up includes vertical and ground-based exercises with familiar modern dance vocabulary, but emphasizes somatic awareness. Exercises encourage proper alignment to prevent injury and gain freedom in movement as well as an understanding of energy use throughout movement. The focus of deep connection brings dancers to a place where they feel their optimal strength and power. The second part of class is devoted to learning phrases from Sarah's choreography. Her movement style is influenced by her interest in studying music, art, and pop culture, as well as nature and esoteric mysteries. The movement is abstract but generates real emotion and connection.
